Underground » Maintenance
The objective of this study was to determine and critically evaluate the characteristics of maintenance in the mines. A key output was to be a concise set of performance indicators.
Information for the study was first collected by means of a survey questionnaire which was issued to some sixty mines. This was followed up by visits to selected sites in Australia and in the USA. The results were then collated into a report which included information on maintenance performance and costs.
Significant opportunities were identified for increasing shareholder value through greater equipment productivity. This would require a change in focus from managing maintenance work and cost to managing equipment performance.
