Seismic 3D surveying and full waveform sonic logging are now major new tools for geological and geotechnical evaluation. CMTE has been supporting their introduction and through this project we have worked to develop and demonstrate interactive analysis software that can be used by practicing coal mine geologists as well as specialist geophysicists.
Specifically:
We ported our general purpose seismic and logging analysis software program SeisWin into Borland C++ Builder. This is one of the best rapid Windows application development environments and enables software developers to concentrate on the details of the algorithms required for new functions rather than having to spend large amounts of time on making the Windows user interfaces work. The end result is a powerful and user-friend geophysical analysis and interpretation tool for coal industry applications.
Using the new version of SeisWin, we demonstrate the extraction of structural information beyond the mining horizon. Structures beyond this horizon can also have significant implications on mining.
We also demonstrate facies analysis and stratigraphic interpretations which also incorporate geophysical log analysis. SeisWin can be used to provide inputs for CSIRO's "Virtual Mine" software.
Outputs such as horizon picks are normally in plain ASCII and can be easily integrated into mine plan software.
For geotechnical projects, we demonstrate how SeisWin can be used to display full waveform sonic logs and acoustic scanner data. Its analysis functions can also be used to obtain sonic transit times from full waveform sonic logs and to extract other useful parameters.
