The main aim of this project is to investigate the relevance and applicability of inhalable dust monitoring program implemented by Australian coal mining industry at the present, identify any issues with AS3640 - Workplace atmospheres - method for sampling and gravimetric determination of inhalable dust, and examine the reason behind the suspension of inhalable dust person exposure limits in the USA.
The project focused on investigating the relevance of inhalable dust particulates and its adverse health effects associated with exposure of these particulates to coal mine workers. It validated the applicability of the inhalable dust monitoring program currently implemented by the Australian coal mining industry, identifying issue with AS3640 (Workplace atmospheres - method for sampling and gravimetric determination of inhalable dust), and examined the suspension of inhalable dust personal exposure limits in USA.
