Coal Preparation » General
As the sole purpose of this project was to raise awareness of ACARP coal preparation research by plant visits there is no report. An A4 size pdf of the poster used during the 2010 visit can be downloaded here.
In 2003 the ACARP Coal Preparation Committee, in discussing the absorption of ACARP funded research into the industry, expressed concerns that the results of this research were not widely known. To remedy this situation it was decided to design a poster highlighting some of the more successful projects and have it delivered to the Coal Preparation Plants by Peter Newling who is currently the Research Coordinator for the Committee, generally explaining ACARP's function, the channels of communication available and some of its current and completed work.
As the 3 previous field promotion trips were well received, the Committee decided to support a further round of visits in the same manner in 2010. This tour was carried out between early April and mid June with a further trip to Stratford in late June and to Cornwall Coal in Tasmania in mid July. Each site was left with a package of handouts of recent work, and a DVD containing the ACARP project reports up to March 2010.
As in 2008 the project was timely due to the growing number of new industry members now in management and process roles, many of these coming from outside the industry as the boom continues. Generally everyone is busy in the industry at this time with new plants under construction and coming on line.
The promotion tour included more than 8,500 km by car, spread over 28 days on the road, and flights to Queensland and Tasmania, with 94 members of the industry being contacted.
