Mining and the Community » Mining and the Community
In line with industry trends generally, Australian coal mining operations are under growing pressure to improve how they monitor, measure, manage and report on the impacts of their operations on surrounding communities. This project aimed to enhance the capacity of the industry to deal with these new challenges by developing, trialling and documenting a process for formulating a site-level ‘Community Impact Management and Monitoring Strategy’ (CIMMS). This was done using Anglo Coal’s Drayton mine in the Upper Hunter Valley of New South Wales as a case study. A sourcebook of community impact measures was also developed.
